Play Me, I’m Yours
Touring internationally since 2008, Play me I’m Yours is an artwork by Luke Jerram (Street Pianos 2015) and a project ran by PMQ in Hong Kong. PMQ is an innovative artistic site that encompasses several layers of historical significance (HK Tourism Board 2018). Today’s PMQ is a local creative hub that consists of many creative enterprises, design studios, offices as well as exhibits for occasional showcases (PMQ 2018). The project is based on creating “street pianos”, which were made available to play in public spaces across significant districts in the city. I have been part of a creation team and participated in piano design processes. The learning outcomes of this project include my interpersonal skills, but most importantly, are the project management skills required, such as stakeholder and resource management skills.
Orbis Ambassador
Orbis is an international NGO dedicated to saving sight worldwide, and as an Orbis ambassador, I strive to raise awareness for individuals with distorted eyesight and vision. During my work experience, I had the opportunity to contribute to the creation of a short film that highlights the detrimental effects of discrimination and also aids in fundraising for Orbis. Moreover, my role as an Orbis ambassador involved participating in various training programs before embarking on a collaboration project with Traveleyes. Traveleyes, renowned as the global leaders in organizing group holidays for both blind and sighted travelers, is the world's first commercial tour operator catering to the needs of individuals with sight loss or partial sight. Reflecting upon my travel experience with Traveleyes to Tuscany, Italy, I can confidently say that it has been a profoundly enriching and rewarding journey. Not only did I engage with pressing global issues, but I also gained a deeper understanding of cultural perspectives and their significance in our lives. This experience with Traveleyes has helped me develop crucial skills such as attention to detail, effective communication, active listening, and unwavering commitment.
City of Lights
A vividly creative celebration of the Christmas season, City of Lights is a festival that incorporates art, music, dance and many more (City of Lights 2018). To give a broad idea, the event showcases paper lanterns created and designed by professional artists, as well as those which are crafted by children from local Cornish schools, community and youth groups. My role as a steward has contributed mainly in managing the flow of people, crowd management and fire management. It is important to practice team management and collaboration when working in small groups.
Crochet for a Cause
Save the Children is a distinguished international organization committed to ensuring children's rights to survival, protection, development, and participation. At the heart of their mission is a campaign dedicated to fostering innovation and driving advancements to enhance their programs and services. My prior involvement with this organization was through a volunteering opportunity centered around the project "Crochet for a Cause." This project aimed to create handmade ornaments and wearable clothing, which were then donated to children facing the challenges of poverty. Engaging in this endeavor not only allowed me to showcase and nurture my creative skills in crochet craftsmanship but also contributed to my personal growth and development.
